This is not an endorsement. I want to make that clear. I’m not using this blog to tell you who to vote for, or whether I believe everything in this video to be true. What I am saying is that you really should watch this video. From an artistic perspective.
Every week I get emails with people asking me what kind of stuff I watch. There seems to be a feeling that there is nothing out there that can compare to the kind of films we produce in the church world. It’s not quite MTV, it’s not quite Hollywood… Well guess what, this video is a perfect example of what a well shot, well edited, well scored emotional piece should look like. If you want to mimic a style, shoot like this.
So we shot out in the forest all day today. It was freezing. Temps never got above 45… When we pulled up, it was snowing. And so I was forced to pull out the patented real nick jones rain slick for my hvx 200… A trashbag.

Don’t kid yourselves. The WBs live a tough life. And this is proof.

This is the opener I created for Houston’s First Baptist Church. I shot this over three days with my HVX 200 and my wonderful wife/assistant Rachel. It is all mastered in HD… unfortunately I suck at compressing HD for Vimeo, so you’ll have to watch a crappy SD version. I know… I’m sorry.
The cold air on my upper lip this morning made me take a long hard look at my life. I need to confess something to you all.
I miss the ’stache. I didn’t think this would happen to me. I hear stories from my friend Kevin about a guy he knew who grew a ’stache on a similar bet and kept it for two years. I never thought I would be one of those guys.
Now, I’m not saying it’s coming back… But as the temperature begins to drop some facial hair thoughts are beginning to surface, and I don’t know how long I can go before they take hold.
I still think it looks ridiculous. Just in case you were wondering.
But maybe, just maybe… it is ridiculously awesome.
My friend Dave Schwarz recently bought the new Sony EX3. Dave sends me out on shoots every once in a while, and the last couple of weekends he provided me with his brand spanking new toy. I gotta say, I like it. It has a bigger chip, so the image is a bit crisper than I get on my 200. The viewfinder is a bit awkward, but it’s nice to have a full size, HD viewfinder at your fingertips. Battery life is great, and shooting on those little SXS cards is a trip. I was really surprised at how much you can store on that little tiny card. Impressive.
Overall this is a nice camera, that produces a great image and has great functionality. When Letus releases their adaptor for the EX3 it will be one of the best options out there to attach prime lenses to a Digital HD camera. I don’t really have a rating system on my blog… so I give it a 16. You can decide what that means for yourself.

With apologies to all my clients, this is why I had to show up looking hideous for the last two months. I think you will all agree it is worth it.
