Ok, I don’t give out a ton of referrals, but I’ve been getting the same emails over and over, so this one’s for real. A lot of people have been asking me to shoot portraits (weddings, seniors, babies, etc.) Unfortunately, I just don’t really shoot any of that stuff anymore, and I’m kind of tired of typing out the same email six times a week. BUT lucky for you I have a great friend that is awesome and I’m about to hook you up. Her name is Amanda Hyden, she has samples here, and she will do an amazing job for you on all that stuff.

Tell her I referred you and you’ll get 10% off…. (I’m not really sure if that will work, but you should for sure try to get 10% off, I mean it’s only fair…) All I can say is she’s awesome to work with, and her stuff is great.

Just to clarify.
Portraits - call Amanda.
Everything else except plumbing - Call me.

3 cool things I learned at NAB.

April 18, 2008

Alright if you didn’t get to go here is small taste of some knowledge dropped on me.

Magic Bullet Tweaks

If you’re not using Magic Bullet Looks in your edits by now… well it’s time to get your head in the game. I picked up a few tasty tidbits this week.
1. If your viewer in Looks is brighter than in FCP, drop your gamma down to 1.8 in the looks preference.
2. All the Looks filters will be available as individual FCP filters in a free update over the summer.
3. Saving your looks and emailing them to friends is what all good editors do for each other…

Panasonic’s New Line

Panasonic stepped it up this year with a new codec they built with Sony called AVCHD. This has been around for a while, but it is just now getting full support in the panasonic line. What’s it mean? Well we can now pack a $600 consumer level camera in our bags and pick up some beautiful HD shots that our big-time cams just can’t hit. (think dashboards cams, mic mounted cams, ceiling cams….)

On top of that, the new Panasonic 170 is awesome. A slight step up from the 200. Better chip set, faster lens, HD SDI out, and most notably no miniDV. This is an all P2 cam and it’s sweet.

Avid Is Still Lame

Ok not really, I just needed an inflammatory headline… Avid dropped out of NAB this year along with Apple. We went over to the Hard Rock Casino to see their presentation. It underwhelmed to say the least. Now don’t get me wrong they have some promising new hardware out there that looks like it can process some heavy weight footage better than FCP. But they JUST NOW gave you the freedom to move clips around the timeline… and separate audio and video in the timeline…. ??

Come on Avid that was innovation in 96… this is 2008. Considering I have personally thrown an Avid Mojo directly in the trash after the third one from the factory stopped working… I will never return to Avid again.

Ok enough tech talk, regular stupid stories will be back on the site shortly. If you have any questions about NAB hit me up…

NAB lesson one.

April 14, 2008

U2 3D is so worth it. We got to see Sunday Bloody Sunday, The Fly, and Miss Sarajevo at a special screening with the directors today. Wow. I most admit I have always thought of 3D as a gimmick. Not anymore. This was the most incredible concert(ish) experience of my life. If this comes to your town you MUST get tickets and go check it out. It will blow you away.

In other news we met with the creative team from Flamingo Road tonight. Awesome guys doing awesome work. The only thing wrong with our meeting was that they left to go see Cirque “Love” and I left to go watch Sportscenter….

las-vegas-strip-hotels.jpg

Well, after a long weekend with the future Mrs. Jones (May 17th for those of you keeping track at home…) I’m off to Las Vegas for NAB. I always look forward to this time of year to see all the new technology, meet some real masters, and catch up with some great videographers from around the world. I’m excited to be meeting with several churches in Vegas this year, as well as some pretty stout filmmakers. If you’re in Vegas and want to meet up send me a message and we’ll hook up, I still have some time open. For the rest of you… Hold down the fort til I get back.

difted demo reel 2008 from difted on Vimeo.

Alright, if you don’t already know, I am one of the lucky film directors working under the difted label. My boys turned out the new reel recently, and I’ve gotta say, I’m a fan. I can’t take much credit for the reel, but I’m proud to be flying the black and green on a daily basis, holding down the fort in Oklahoma..
