Belief - 911 from Nick Jones on Vimeo.

So here is the final product from one of our NYC shoots. I will have some of the more glamorous videos up in the next few weeks, but this will give you a good taste of what we accomplished over those two days.

In other news, Grant Downing and I are heading out to West Palm Beach, FL for the next few days to start shooting a new super secret project…. let all the internet rumors begin….

halo 3 is here!

September 24, 2007

I will be outside at midnight tonight picking up a copy of Halo 3 along with an estimated 4.2 million others worldwide… crazy. I read today that Halo 3 is expected to bring in more than Spiderman 3 in one day. It is being billed as the biggest media event of all time. Harry Potter brought in $166 million dollars in one day, I think Microsoft has it in the bag…

We’ve come a long way from Super Mario Brothers…

the (mainstream) spin cycle

September 21, 2007

I’ve been listening to some really great albums lately. I know I’m a media designer and all, so I should be listening to bands that have names like “Raging Kittens Eating Radioactive Socks” or something, but surprisingly there’s some pretty good stuff floating around the mainstream these days. So if you’re starved for some new tunes, check these out.

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
FOO FIGHTERS - ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE, & GRACE
The new Foo Fighters album is amazing. I wasn’t the biggest fan of “In Your Honor”, but this is a homerun for me. The opening track, “Pretender” gets the Fighters of Foo right back to where they were back in “Colour and the Shape” days. Awesome stuff.

The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
BRAND NEW - THE DEVIL AND GOD ARE RAGING INSIDE ME
Brand New is one of those bands I didn’t want to like. I was skeptical of the album title, but this is a really solid album from start to finish. Favorite tracks are “Jesus”, “Degausser”, and “Limousine”

Finding Forever
COMMON - FINDING FOREVER
I’ve been a fan of Common for a while now. I’m not the biggest supporter of rap music, but Common is something much more. He is truly an emcee, a poet. He tells stories through his tracks, and winds in some really great beats.

There are several more in heavy rotation right now, but those three are headlining on the ipod these days. And if you haven’t read the below post… pick up “Across the Universe”, great soundtrack.

across the universe

September 19, 2007

I don’t get genuinely excited about many films. Is it risky to turn Beatles’ songs into a jukebox musical? Absolutely. But for some reason I think they may have got it right. Given that Moulin Rouge is just about my favorite film ever this movie is a no brainer for me. I bought the soundtrack on itunes the other day and was really impressed. Sure there were a few songs they should have just left alone, but overall they did some really cool stuff with some classic songs. If you’re in the OKC vicinity this weekend you’ll find me in the theater…

the new york shoots

September 16, 2007

NYC Shoot 1

So we’re back from NYC. I’ve gotta say everytime I go to New York I wish I could stay just a little longer. We were privelaged to have a great photographer, known only as “Magic Man” along with us to shoot some behind the scenes action. I’ll throw a few images up here, but check out the whole Flickr album here.

NYC Shoot 6

A quick rundown of the highlights.
Sandwiches at Carnegie Deli. Wow. I think I literally ate an entire cow…
We were forced out of the Statue of Liberty by armed SWAT team members.
NYC saturday street market on 6th Avenue. Never knew kabobs could smell that good.
NYPD/FDNY 9/11 tribute at Battery Park. Pretty touching, images will be in the upcoming films.

NYC Shoot 19

I think I was most impressed at how nice New Yorkers have become post 9/11. You can genuinely sense a different attitude among the general population. We had numerous people come out of nowhere to help us out, tell us how to get somewhere, and give us encouragement. All in all it was a great time in the Big Apple.

I’ll post some more thoughts on what I’ve learned in the next few days. I’m currently in NYC shooting for a new series that we’re all pretty stoked about. More details on that later.

Baxter!

September 3, 2007

Baxter!

Rachel and I have been wanting a dog for quite awhile. This weekend we finally did something about it. We found Baxter on Craigslist listed by a lady in South OKC that just had 5 puppies. Baxter is a dachsund / jack russell mix, and probably won’t get bigger than about 12 pounds. I’m not gonna lie, the puppy is cute. I’m working on teaching him to pee on a little sheet of paper right now… I’m not sure he is understanding the concept.
