the (mainstream) spin cycle
September 21, 2007I’ve been listening to some really great albums lately. I know I’m a media designer and all, so I should be listening to bands that have names like “Raging Kittens Eating Radioactive Socks” or something, but surprisingly there’s some pretty good stuff floating around the mainstream these days. So if you’re starved for some new tunes, check these out.

FOO FIGHTERS - ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE, & GRACE
The new Foo Fighters album is amazing. I wasn’t the biggest fan of “In Your Honor”, but this is a homerun for me. The opening track, “Pretender” gets the Fighters of Foo right back to where they were back in “Colour and the Shape” days. Awesome stuff.

BRAND NEW - THE DEVIL AND GOD ARE RAGING INSIDE ME
Brand New is one of those bands I didn’t want to like. I was skeptical of the album title, but this is a really solid album from start to finish. Favorite tracks are “Jesus”, “Degausser”, and “Limousine”

COMMON - FINDING FOREVER
I’ve been a fan of Common for a while now. I’m not the biggest supporter of rap music, but Common is something much more. He is truly an emcee, a poet. He tells stories through his tracks, and winds in some really great beats.
There are several more in heavy rotation right now, but those three are headlining on the ipod these days. And if you haven’t read the below post… pick up “Across the Universe”, great soundtrack.
